First Chromira Installation in Ireland
December 13th, 2004 - Ireland - The Poster Company
Ltd has just installed the very first Chromira 50 Digital
Imaging Continuous Tone Large Format machine in Ireland.
It can print up to 1.5 meters wide by any length and
is a significant step forward for the company.
I asked Managing Director Brendan Berry to explain
why he chose this machine. Major corporate companies
like banks, international phone companies and others
were beginning to stress true photographic quality for
their printed jobs, he explained.
Up to this it was a choice between the Durst
Lambda and the Lightjet. We looked at both and then
we heard about the Chromira. Brendan and his partner
Karl went to four sites in the UK, and in two of the
sites the quality from this machine just knocked
us out, he said.
It is tailor made for point of sale and exhibition
work. Of course this is a totally different ball game
for us. We have had to build a dark room, and because
it is genuine photographic quality, imaged in a dark
room and processed in a processor with developer, the
resulting quality is outstanding, he added.
The machine can take paper or film, roll to roll in
any width up to 50-inches. The print head is LED technology.
Print files may be printed from any location on the
network and no machine operator is required.
And you will not get better quality than this,
Brendan said. Originally developed for the one hour
photo labs in the US, The Poster Company purchased its
Chromira 50 through the manufacturer, EBAs European
agent, Atech in the UK.
In total we now have five large format machines,
an HP 5500, HP 1055, Xerox X2, Tuchan Mutoh outdoor
machine, and now the Chromira, he said.
Brendan is used to large jobs. We recently did
the Spencer Dock development hoarding involving 1000
8 x 4ft boards, continuous image, a special hard drive
from the designer to allow ourselves to handle the information,
printed on self adhesive vinyl, with an anti graffiti
vinyl over that as well. He emphasized that because
this job is solvent-based it will last four or five
years.
The Poster Company that also does its own finishing
mounting, and laminating in-house is quietly confident
about the future and sees increased business in both
point of sale and outdoor signage.
