BASIC ASSEMBLY OF ZBE SENTINETTE ENLARGER

This document outlines the basic installation of the Sentinette Manual Enlarger. The Sentinette comes partially assembled. The Lens and Negative runners are fully assembled and mounted to the column. On wall-mounted machines, the focus/sizing control knobs are fully assembled and functional. On bench-mounted machines, the control knobs and shafts are included with the shipment, but will need to be installed. On all Sentinettes, the Starlite 55 Colorhead is packaged in a carton included in the main grate, complete with the mounting bracket required for installation.

Please read the following instructions before assembling the machine.

  1. The first step in installing the Sentinette is to get the column mounted in it's up-right position. For bench-mounted machines, the column will mount to the base frame using four Allen-head bolts, two from the front, and two up from the bottom. During this step, it is advisable to have the machine in a horizontal position, lying on it's back. The drawing below shows the attachment of the column to the base frame.

On the wall, and the upper bracket top the top wall-mounted machines, the process involves attaching the lower bracket to of the column (if it is not already). The column assembly may then be placed upon the mounted bottom bracket, and the top bracket then screwed into the wall.

  1. On bench-mounted machines, the control knobs and shafts heed to be installed before the machine can be used. The knobs are already attached to the shafts. These shafts are installed, through the use of universal couplings, to the shaft stubs on the front of the column at the bottom. The locking levers are then threaded into holes provided in the side of the hub block for each knob shaft. The Drawing below shows the two knob shafts installed, as well as the locations of the locking levers.

The Universal couplings utilize Allen-head screws for attaching to each shaft. Make sure that these screws are tight, since they will bear all the driving force for the machine.

This step is not necessary for wall-mounted Sentinettes.

  1. On bench-mounted Sentinettes, the baseboard will attach to the base frame, using the three mounting points shown above. At each of these points, there is a bolt and nut. The bolt has a threaded hole in the top, into which the screw for mounting the baseboard is installed. Each of these bolts may be adjusted by loosening the nut holding it secure. This enables the tilt of the table to be adjusted.

The baseboard itself has three mounting holes. The three mounting screws are inserted through these holes, using the tapered washers provided, into the threaded holes in the three bolts.

Install the three screws and tighten. The height of each mounting location (bolt with hole in top) may be adjusted at any time thereafter.

  1. Once the enlarger's column is upright and set up, the colorhead may now be installed. The Starlite 55 is supplied with a mounting block attached at it's bottom for easy mounting to the Sentinette frame. The drawing below shown a general view of the Starlite's mounting location. The Colorhead is secured in position by three flat-head screws along the rear edge of it's mounting plate.

Once the Starlite 55 is installed on top of the column, it may be hooked up and the power turned on. The cabling to the enlarger is merely the Power cord for the Starlite colorhead, the Keypad cord into the lower telephone-type jack in the Starlite, the Density Probe and footswitch, if equipped.
