CHROMALIZER ALIGNMENT INSTRUCTIONS
The Chromalizer is a color analyzer most often associated
with machine printers. The Starlite is perfectly compatible
with this analyzer, however, it's unique method of operation
demands the special alignment procedure itemized below.
- In the Starlite Preferences, set the Density slope
direction to "Negative"
- In the Starlite Preferences, set the Time to Density
Correction to "Inactive"
- Take your Shirley negative, make a perfect print
with the Chromalizer. Write down the cyan, magenta
and yellow values from the light source and the exposure
time.
- Setup the same Shirley negative in the Starlite
enlarger. Set the exposure time to exactly 4 times
the value used on the Chromalizer.
- Print the Shirley with the Starlite enlarger, to
adjust the darkness of the print use the "Density"
key. Increasing the density number will make the print
lighter. Use the "Magenta" and "Yellow"
keys to change the color of the print.
- Continue printing the Shirley until the density
and color exactly matches the print from the Chromalizer.
- To prepare to "Align" the Starlite to
the Chromalizer, remove the negative from the carrier
and verify that the exposure time is 4 times the exposure
time from the Chromalizer.
- Go into the Starlite Calibration menu and select
the "Calibrate Master Color Balance" option.
- You will be prompted to enter a set of DCMY values.
The values you should enter are as follows:
- For the Density value enter the Cyan value
from the Chromalizer, be sure the Density number
is positive.
- Enter "0" for the Cyan value.
- For the Magenta value take the Magenta value
from the Chromalizer and subtract the Cyan value.
This number should be positive.
- For the Yellow value take the Yellow value
from the Chromalizer and subtract the Cyan value.
This number should be positive.
- Press enter when all the values have been entered.
Press enter when it asks to calibrate the probe. Follow
the instructions on the screen to calibrate the probe.
- You should then be back at the main screen. The
exposure time should be 4 times the printer time,
the density should be the cyan value from the chromalizer,
the cyan number should be 0, the magenta value should
be equal to the chromalizer magenta - chromalizer
cyan. And the yellow value should be equal to the
chromalizer yellow - chromalizer cyan.
- Install the Shirley negative in the Starlite and
make a print. It should match the print from the chromalizer.
That completes the alignment procedure.
Making prints using the chromalizer numbers.
You have just made a perfect print on the chromalizer.
- Write down the three numbers from the chromalizer
light source and the exposure time.
- Take the negatives and the numbers to the Starlite
enlarger.
- Install the negative in the Starlite enlarger.
- Take the exposure time from the chromalizer and
multiply it by 4 and enter that value using the "Time"
key on the Starlite.
- Press the Density and for the Density value enter
the Cyan value from the Chromalizer, be sure the Density
number is positive.
- Press the "Cyan" key enter "0"
for the Cyan value.
- Press the "Magenta" key for the Magenta
value take the Magenta value from the Chromalizer
and subtract the Cyan value. This number should be
positive.
- Press the "Yellow" key for the Yellow
value take the Yellow value from the Chromalizer and
subtract the Cyan value. This number should be positive.
- If you have moved the enlarger or changed the aperture
since the last print, remove the negative and take
a probe reading.
- Make your exposure.
