STARLITE/SENTINEL FOOTSWITCH MODIFICATIONS
The Footswitch that is available for the ZBE Starlite
Colorhead and Sentinel Enlarger is designed for use
in almost all darkroom environments. At times, however,
a user will want the footswitch to operate in a slightly
different manner than originally designed. This document
covers two modifications that can be done to the Footswitch
assembly that can accommodate that following:
Change operation of Focus Footswitch to yield
filtered light, instead of white light:
This is sometimes desirable so that, when the user
activates the Focus Footswitch, the light will shut
off immediately upon release of the pedal. In original
configuration, the Focus Footswitch will turn the
light on in white-light ("FILTERS OUT")
mode. When released, the light must return to normal
filtration before extinguishing. This delay of about
3-4 seconds can be annoying to some users.
Swap the positions of the Focus and Expose
Footswitches:
If it is desired to change the locations of the Focus
and Expose Footswitch pedals, the procedure for this
is described at the end of this document.

Changing Operation of FOCUS footswitch from White
Light to Filtered Light:
This modification involves some soldering at the connector
of the Footswitch assembly (where it plugs into the
Starlite/Sentinel). The tools needed will be:
- 60W Soldering Iron (one designed for use on electronic
circuits, not pipe fittings)
- Solder (Electronic-grade Rosin core, not
acid-core)
- #1 Size Philips-Head Screwdriver
- Small razor, scalpel or X-ActoŽ knife
The procedure is as follows:

- Unplug the Footswitch from the enlarger.
- Loosen and remove the three screws holding the connector
housing together. See drawing of connector at right.
- Note the orientation of the connector hood, then
remove it.
- Examine the wires going to the terminal of the D-25
Connector. They should appear as shown below. The
functions of the three wires are also indicated:
